T. \i i s, T. The Alabama Inter-Collegiate Oratorical Association THK Alabama Inter-Collegiate Oratorical Association was organizedin the fall of 1902, through the efforts of Dr. YV. S. Cox, founderof Cox College, College Park, Georgia. Delegates from Ala-bama Polytechnic Institute, Southern University, and Howard Collegemet in Montgomery and effected the organization, the purpose of whichis to develop a friendly rivalry between the colleges in the cultivation oforatory. Under this organization an oratorical contest is held each year, eachof the three institutions having one representative. A handsome goldmedal, donated by Dr. Cox, is awarded the winner, who is then giventhe privilege of competing in the Southern Inter-Collegiate OratoricalContest. The first contest was held in Montgomery in the spring of 1903, andHoward was represented by P. C. Barkley.
