Top quark event. Electronic display of a top quark events in the CDF (Collider Detector Facility) at Fermilab, the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory near Chicago, USA. The image shows the result of a proton-antiproton collision. The whole event is shown at left, a detail of the central \vertex\" region is enlarged at right. Two top quarks (not visible) are formed and immediately decay into bottom quarks. The bottom quarks decay into various particles (red tracks, lower right). The collision also produces a positron (pink track, upper left) and other partlcles (white tracks, at left). The CDF detector discovered the top quark in 1995."
