Gardner, "William Thatcher, gardener, led, followed by Colonel Charles PfafF, George Melvin, gardener, and William Whitman. James Marlborough, superintendent for Thomas E. Proctor, of Topsfield, had a magnificent collection of fancy caladiums, hundreds of plants in over 125 varieties arranged artistically in beds to represent a garden scene. A circular bed in the center contained a pool of water, with fountains playing. Among a host of beautiful sorts, these were grandly colored: Lady Moseley, Noakesii, Araras, candidum, President de la Devansaye, Eio de Janeiro, Mons. Alfred Bleu, Baron Adolph de Eoths- child, General Kuroki and Sir Julian Goldschmid. This display was awarded a gold medal, and Mr. Marlborough re- ceived a silver medal for superior cul- ture. The Mount Desert Nurseries received a silver medal for a grand collection of aconitums; also certificates of merit for the new astilbes, June and Silver White. They also had grand vases of A. Da- vidii, rutilans and Rose Perle. R. & J. Farquhar & Co. had an ex- tensive display of herbaceous flowers, buddleias, etc. They also had Sorbaria glabrata and quantities of Lilium Henryi. Bay State Nurseries and Eastern Nurseries each had splendid banks of herbaceous plants. G. W. Page, Mrs. E. M.
