Calyx . and proceeding a most luxuriousbanquet, the 1920 Men Discard Caps WithSigns of Gladness according to the captionin the following number of the Ring-turnPhi. From that momentous night the honor-able Sophomores have worn their own head-dress and well lived up to the motto impliedby their name, If ignorance is bliss, tisfolly to be wise. But it has not all been idle play thisyear. The men of 20 have been representedin every phase of campus life. They haveborne their share of the responsibilities andtaken their part in the big things accom-plished this year. While many of them have stayed to work and toil for theUniversity, an equal number have offered their services to the government, andare now fighting and giving their all for their country. Quite different arethey this year from the light minded, irresponsible youngsters who assembledfor the first time two years ago. Since then, they have been called upon tomake sacrifices worthy of men, to stand for high principles, and to defend the. honor of their Alma Mater and their Country, are made thoughtful and grave by the factthat they too may soon be called on to makethe supreme sacrifice. Yes, thoughtful andgrave, but also proud and glad that they areaccounted worthy to make that sacrifice. It is with a mixture of pride and sad-ness that the events of the last two years arerecalled. Pride, because of the things work completed, growth from youth in-to manhood, and because of the honor ofserving our country. Sadness, because thenation has been plunged into an awful war, because so many of our friends have leftand gone and sadness because of the terribledestruction which awaits our boys whentheir turn comes.
