Bon Accord Centre, Scottish shopping precinct, retail shopping mall in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire north-east Scotland, uk
Bon Accord-St Nicholas is the largest shopping centre in Aberdeen and the City has for centuries been the main shopping destination for a huge catchment area. Indeed, the range and quality of shops in the City even attracts shoppers from as far afield as Norway. The location is fast becoming known as the Bon Accord Quarter with the Bon Accord Quarter Masterplan having been approved by Aberdeen City Council in September 2006. The final scheme will extend to almost 1 million sq ft between Marks & Spencer and John Lewis. Total Floor Space - 630,000 sq ft Anchor Store - John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Boots, Primark, Woolworths Since opening (St Nicholas 1985, Bon Accord 1990) the Bon Accord-St Nicholas Centre has formed the prime retailing area in Aberdeen. Extending to 630,000 sq ft over two levels, the scheme is anchored by John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Boots, Primark and Woolworth. The Centre was built in a serpentine shape to maximise shop unit frontage and is covered by a barrel vaulted glazed roof to maximise natural light. A 90-ft high glazed dome roof provides a spectacular focal point at the heart of the Centre. In mid 2007 New Look will open a 55,000 sq ft store on the upper level of the Bon Accord. The central atrium has recently been re-developed to provide space for Costa and Ben & Jerry's.
