Two flap gates used for flood control and water retention, Basingstoke Canal, Ash Vale, Surrey, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom, Europe. — The two gates close in opposite directions, depending on water flow, and indeed can both be closed simultaneously. Flood conditions would usually result from a rising Mytchett Lake not far from this location and through which the Basingstoke Canal flows. Note that there is no lock associated with the gates.
