Vermillion gate, or torii, marking the entrance to Itsukushima Shrine on the island of Miyajima, located an hour's drive from Hiroshima. At low tide, visitors can walk up to the base of the wooden gate and insert coins in the cavities of the wood. At high tide, the gate appears to float on the water. The site is ranked as one of Japan's top three most scenic places.
