The White Heron Dance called Sagi-mai in Shimane Japan Asia
With 700 years of history, the town of Tuwano in Shimane Prefecture is known as the "Little Kyoto" of the San-in Region. In July at the Shinto shrine of Yasaka in this town the "Tsuwano Gion Matsuri" festival is held with the sagi-mai White Heron Dance. This ethnologiclly valuable event still retains the rich traditions of its beginnings when it was first brought over from Kyoto in the early 19th century,and is now designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property.
