Showing his patriotismby serving as War Historian of the city by appointment of theMayor, Mr. Barrows collected much valuable material whichhad to do with Springfields share in the Great Conflict. Onthe 18th of October, 1918, just as the bells were ringing and theguns were firing in the prospect of a returning peace, his earthlylife ended and he was laid to rest in the Peabody Cemeterywhich he knew so well and which he loved so much.
