View of Paulskirshe from busy Bethmannstrasse, Frankfurt 1
Photograph showing Paulskirche taken from Bethmannstrasse. Built between 1789 and 1833, the building was the site of the German National Assembly in 1848 and represents one of the earliest attempts at setting up a democratic constition in Germany. The building was gutted during the second world war in 1944, but was rebuilt with donations from all over the country. One of the most famous visitors was John F Kennedy who spoke outside the building in June 1963.
