A restored 1840s mill is a featured attraction at Seigneurie des Aulnaies. In an effort to hasten development in New France in the 16th/17th centuries, the government granted seigneuries which were sections of land along the St. Lawrence River to settlers willing to farm, fish or manufacture and hence secure the future of the colony. This mill, a manor house and other surrounding structures preserve part of an era in Quebec history Canada
