Recently uncovered Roman tesserae mosaics, Merida, Spain, photographed in June 2006. The town was founded by veterans of the Roman Army in 25 BC, with the name of Emerita Augusta (meaning the veterans or discharged soldiers of the army of Augustus. Many Roman remains can be seen there including the longest of all existing Roman bridges Puente Romano still used by pedestrians, The Temple of Diana and Aqueduct remains . The town hosts the Museo Nacional de Arte Romano (National Museum of Roman Art) which holds Roman artifacts and artwork from around Spain.
