The junction is somewhat enlargedand constitutes the pelvis. At the level of the disc between first andsecond lumbar vertebrae it continues as the ureter proper. The ureter proper is a small tube about 4 mm. thick and 10 to12 inches (25 to 30 cm.) in length. It extends from the upper borderof the second lumbar vertebra to the bladder. The first part {parsabdominalis) lies in the abdominal cavity and corresponds nearly tothe midinguinal line. The second half [pars pelvina) lies in the pel-vic cavity. When it reaches the bladder, it enters that structureobhquely and proceeds for nearly an inch ( cm.) between the mus-cular and mucous coats. Its opening in the bladder is g
