The little château de Meudon was at his disposal to devise the fixed balloons, as well as the necessary equipment required to inflate the crafts. Conté was provided with everything he needed. After having perfected the hydrogen generator, they looked for a way to make the envelopes of the balloons impervious to gas. They applied a lacquer which kept the aerostats inflated for several weeks. Unfortunately however, the effects of the lacquering process later disappeared.
