Jan. 6, 1919). Hugh M. LaRue movedwith his father to Lewis County, Missouri, in 1839. In 1849he joined the Sublette-Conduit expedition across the plains 51 SIX GENERATIONS to California; located first in Amador County in the lastnamed State; within a few years he became extensivelyengaged in agriculture and horticulture in the SacramentoValley. He had a prominent part in the development ofCalifornia; was Sheriff of his county in 1873-4; member ofthe second Constitutional Convention of California, in 1879;in 1883 and 1884 was member of the California Assembly,and was Speaker of the House; was Railroad Commissioner. The late Hugh McElrov LaRue (I. F a 2), of Sacramento, Cali-fornia (Photograph, 1899). from 1891 to 1895, and on various occasions was promin-ently mentioned as candidate for Governor on the Demo-cratic ticket.
