Bronze sculpture (Carl Milles 1927) of Folke Filbyter depicted on his horse slipping as he crosses a brook, Millesgarden, Lidingo, Stockholm, Sweden

Sculptor Carl Milles (1875-1955) is famous for his figurative sculptures inspired mainly by Greek, Roman and Christian mythology. He often sculpted in granite and bronze and liked to raise his sculptures up in the air so they interacted with the sky. Milles and his wife Olga bought Millesgarden, on the shores of Lake Vartan on the Stockholm island of Lidingo in 1906. The house was designed by architect Carl Bengtsson and completed in 1908. During the following half century adjoining properties were acquired and terraces added. In 1936 Millesgarden was made into a foundation and donated to the Swedish people.
