Two Samburu moran or warriors at their settlement near Samburu National Reserve Kenya East Africa They have bare torsos and are in traditional dress with a red cotton wrap around their waists and lower body They have bracelets and bead decorations including two strings of beads crossed over on their chests These signify that they are Morani or warriors Such beads cannot be worn by men in other age sets or groups They look slim vigorous healthy and fit In the background are the simple huts of their village built of mud and wattle with thatched roofs Some of the roofs are reinforced with plastic sheets to protect them from rain One hut is raised on a platform with a ladder giving access This is because the people find they suffer less from mosquitoes when the hut is off the ground
