Another shaft, to be used as a second opening, etc., wasin the same condition in regard to the ventilation and hoisting appa-ratus. I notified the management to comply with the law withoutdelay. I have since been informed that the shafts have been con-nected and a marked improvement has been made in the sanitarycondition of the shafts.
