A railroad yard worker manually throws a switch on a lead track to allow a locomotive to be routed from one track to another. The practice is common at the Canadian National Railway's Markham Yard in south suburban Chicago. At many yards, switches are thrown electronically from a tower or remote location, however, at the outskirts of this yard, the switches are still thrown manually.
