Emile Flourens (1841-1920). 1899 illustration of the French politician Emile Flourens. Flourens held various positions including auditor of the Imperial Council (1863-1868) and president of the departments of Legislation, Justice, and Foreign Affairs in the Government Council, and president of the Deliberative Commission on French protectorates in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1886 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Goblet Cabinet, and succeeded in peaceably adjusting the delicate Schnaebele affair (April 1887).
