This road lies wholly within this State and extends southwesterly fromRock Island to Peoria, a distance of 91 miles, with a branch from Milan toCable, 22 miles in length, and a branch from Presumption to Sherrard, 5miles in length, making a grand total of 118 TRACK. 3Iain Line, 91 miles.—The main line is a single track road and laid with56-lb., 60-lb. and some 80-lb. steel rail, with even joints and fastened withangle bars of suitable weight, excepting the 80-lb. rail which is fastened withcontinuous rail joints. The 80-lb. rail is comparatively new and is the stand-ard pattern for relaying purposes. The 60-lb. rail is in fairly good condition, but the 56-lb. rail is badly surface bent and rides quite rough, being entirelyunsuitable for the amount of traffic passing over it. Cedar ties are used ontangents and oak ties on curves. All switches are eciuipped with split points and stiff frogs and maintainedin good condition. The track is well ballasted with gravel and is maintainedin good condition with the exception of that part of the line laid with 56-poundrail which is iu as good condition, as far as line and surface is concerned, asthe condition of the rail will permit.
