Royal Earlswood Park, Redhill, Surrey, covered in morning mist


Royal Earlswood Park, now a prestigious property development, used to be the Royal Earlswood Hospital. known as " Earlswood Asylum for Idiots and Imbeciles". Built from 1853 to 1855 by William Bonython Moffat, the architect and partner of Sir George Gilbert Scott, it used to be a large psychiatric hospital. Earlswood is south of the Surrey town Redhill, in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead, close to the London to Brighton railway In 1997, the hospital closed, and the building was converted into apartments.
