Marc Seguin (1786-1875), French engineer. Seguin designed and made two steam locomotives for the Saint-Etienne-Lyon railway. He improved locomotive efficiency by using a multiple fire-tube boiler (patented in 1827) rather than the water-tube boiler used previously. He also managed a range of other businesses. Seguin became a member of the Academie des Sciences in 1845 and recieved the Legion d'honneur in 1836. Artwork from 'Chemins de Fer, Automobiles' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
