Grizzly bear country from the air, Grenville Channel north of Hartley Bay, British Columbia


The Great Bear Rainforest is one of the last huge areas of roadless north temperate rain forest on the planet. It stretches from the mid-coast of British Columbia to the Cariboo Mountains to the east and it a rich habitat for grizzly bears, Spirit bears and black bears as well as several species of whales and numerous other species that will be at risk is the Northern Pipeline development proceeds. The grizzly bears, when they come out of hibernation, come down to rich sedge grass meadows (bright green in the photo) in the estuaries to feed.
