Sophienkirche, Sophien Church Interior, gilded ceing detail - Grosse Hamburger Strasse 29–31, Mitte,Berlin The 1712 church is named after Sophie Luise von Mecklenburg-Schwerin, the third wife of King Frederick I of Prussia . The Baroque tower was added in 1732-34 by Johann Friedrich Grael. In 1891/92 the church was remodeled to designs by Friedrich Schulze and the architects' Kyllmann & Heyden. In the years 1903-1905 the Sophiengemeinde built five-story residential buildings in neo-baroque style on either side of the church
