HANNIBAL BONNEY. Hannibal Bonney, proprietor of the Penacook house, was bornin Winthrop, Maine, February 26, 1815. His parents were Jamesand Cynthia (Cole) Bonney; his father was also born in Win-. Hannibal Bonney. throp, and his mother in Massachusetts. There were nine sonsin the family of whom Mr. Bonney is the only one now living. The only education that he received was from the schools of his native town. He worked on the farm at home until he was eighteen years old, and then on September 4, 1833, enlisted in a Dragoon regiment of the United States army, and served with 25 370 HISTORY OF PENACOOK. that regiment eight years. After that he enlisted in the Texanarmy for the period of during the war. He also served in theSeminole Indian war in Florida, making a record of longer andmore arduous service for his country than any veteran in thisvicinity. Soon after leaving the army Mr. Bonney engaged in the hotelbusiness which he has followed over forty years. He came toPenacook in 1862, purchased the old tavern stand, and has sincekept one of the very best country hotels to be found in New Eng-land. His
