Kenneth Alwyne Pounds (born 1934), British astrophysicist. Pounds's career was spent at Leicester University, where he founded what is now one of the largest centres for astronomical space research in Europe. He was made a CBE in 1984. Pounds is best known for his research in X-ray astronomy on active galaxies and black holes. He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society (1989), and then served as the President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1990-1992). He retired in 2002.
