While yet a youngman Mr. (iustafson was amongst the earhfounders and settlers of Cadillac. One yearafter his arrival in Wexford county he en-tered the employ of Cloud &- Ballon as an ap-prentice to the tinners trade. In 1879 his connection withthe above establishment and went to BigRapids where he was employed for twoyears, then in 1881 he returned to Cadillacand was at once em])loyed by John M. Cloud,with whom he remained till he embarked inbusiness for himself. Eight years later, in1889, he formed a partnership with Andrew. JOHN CiUSTAFSON. J y EX FORD COUNTY. MICHIGAN. 403 Olsen, and engaged in the grocery businessunder the style of Olsen & Gustafson. Thelum thus continued business until January1, 1891, when it was dissohed 1)\ mutualconsent, and Mr. Gustafson, the followingMarch, became associated with John John-son in the hardware business. The latterbusiness continued until 1901, Messrs. Gus-tafson & Johnson purchasing good businessproperty in an excellent location in 1901 the partnership was dissolved, andsince that date Mr. Gustafson has been con-ducting a heating and plumbing establish-ment and is now conducting a general hard-ware store. Mr. Gustafsons tastes runs mostly tomechanics and in this line of business he hasbeen remarkably successful and his standingand btisiness reputation is such as is recog-nized by the better class of the commercialworld.
