The first light on these questionscame from the discovery by Albrecht and Ghon^ that organ-isms apparently identical with the diplococcus of Weichselbaumcould be found in the nasal secretions of some of the observation was quickly followed by many others. Thus,Fliigge^® found the meningococcus in the nasal secretion fourtimes in 44 trials, and von Lingelsheim^^ 182 times in 787 exam-inations, and Koplik^^ quotes Goodwin and Sholly to the effectthat the organism can be obtained
