2nd Lt. John O. Donaldson, son of Brig. Gen Donaldson, received the distinguished flying cross of the British Air Service. He was attached to the 32nd Squadron Lt. Donaldson's plane experienced engine trouble during an air battle on the British front on September 1, 1918, leading him to land in enemy territory.
