In addition to the PublicSchools, there are foiir Separate Schools,under the direction of the Roman Catholicauthorities. These fit pupils for the Col-legiate Institute course. It is worthy of record that the first kinder-garten school west of Toronto was establishedin what is now Ward 6 of the City of was then, however, still a rural school sec-tion, and the school was the pioneer kinder-garten in rural sections. There is alsoa boarding andday school forgirls at the con-vent of the Sa-cred Heart. Itis open to alldenominatio n s,but does notcome within thecategory of freeschools. Thisapplies to sev-eral schools, col-leges and acad-emies, which are based on proprietary orcommercial considerations.
