In the North this variety requires to be started in a hotbed. The dried interiors of these gourds have already become an article of commerce â grown in Florida, they are sold by druggists. T h e bu 1 b should be used while young and tender, as age detracts from its good quality. Set plants eight inches apart in the row. For later use sow seed in drills and thin to the proper dis- tanee apart. When well-grown and pro- perly prepared for the table it is one ot the most desirable of vegetables, and should be in every Per Green or White. Good for table use and stock, pkt. 5 cts.; oz. 15 cts.; % ft 40 cts.; per ft $ EARLY WHITE VIENNA. The best for table use. Per pkt. 5 cts.; oz. 20 cts.; % ft 60 cts.; per ft $ EARLY PURPLE VIENNA. This variety is the most largely grown for table use in Germany and Aus- tria. Per pkt. 5 cts.; oz. 20 cts.; % ft 60 cts.; per ft $ LEEK. Sow the seed very early, in a seed bed' in a sheltered place, if possible. When plants are about six inches long, transplant them to trenches six inches deep, with very rich soil at the bottom. Fill up the trenches as the plants grow, and later draw soil up to them. As a result you will have fine, large leeks, blanche
