Briane Conroy of Brewarrina New South Wales is the face of the future for Aboriginal Australians.
Briane Conroy of Brewarrina is the face of the future for Aboriginal Australians. After 200 years of brutality and neglect the Australian federal Government has apologised for the many transgressions of the past. It is hoped that the apology which is directed in particular at those Aboriginal people who suffered enforced removal from their families will allow the Nation to move towards a future based on mutual respect, resolve and responsibility. The South Narrabeen Surf Lifesaving Club on Sydney's Northern beaches, recognising a need for closer relationships with indigenous people has hosted annual weekends for underprivileged and neglected Aboriginal children for the past 3 years. This year 39 children travelled 800 km from their inland desert town for a weekend by the sea. The club members are hoping that other Surf Life Saving clubs along the coast can adopt a town too.
