An historic Douglas DC-3 propeller-driven airplane flies past homes at low altitude to spray chemicals that help control pesky and health-endangering mosquitos in the Florida Keys, an island chain at the southern end of Florida, USA. In the years after this photograph was taken in 1992, the DC-3 has been replaced by helicopters and drones to cover mosquito infestations in a 120-mile stretch of Monroe County. The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District conducts its flights to release insecticides at an altitude of 100 to 150 feet only when winds on the ground are less than 15 miles per hour.
