These cells are large and rich in proto-plasm and are epithelioid in character. Toward the end of the ripening stagethey are actually larger than the epithelial cells of the membrana granulosa. Meanwhile the egg also undergoes a change. It becomes surrounded by astrong homogeneous capsule, the zona pellucida.
