A German executioner's sword, ca. 1700 Broad blade, blunt point with three holes, the forte with fuller. Decorative etching at the base of the blade on both sides, portraying a gallows and wheel between scrolling flowers, the etching probably added in the 19th century. Blackened cross-guard with slightly conical, round quillons, the ends decorated with brass rosettes. Fish skin covered grip with Turk's head ferrules made of brass. Heavy, blackened pommel.
