Washington Crossing the Delaware
German-born American history painter Emanuel Leutze painted this oil on canvas work depicting the American revolutionary war scene of General George Washington crossing the Delaware River on December 25, 1776. The action was the first move in an attack against Hessian soldiers in Trenton, New Jersey. Leutze's painting dates to 1851, and it hangs in the Kunsthall in Bremen, Germany.
