The small city sits on a plateau overlooking the scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), surrounded by mountains, home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforests. Kandy is famed for the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) shrine, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.
