5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (June 28, 2018) Command Master Chief Ervin Byrd III serves cake to the crew in the Suribachi Room aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) following a presentation in observation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, June 28, 2018. Iwo Jima is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
