The very chronicle ofhis birth stands well at the head as a sub-ject for controversy, and now, more than ahundred years after the event, and nearlyseventy years after his death, the birth dateis flatly and forever contradicted by lettersfrom Chopins own family and the officialchurch register of the Roman Catholicparish to which they belonged. The Chopinbiographer, Moritz Karasowski, was in-formed by Chopins sister that the year1809 was correct, and a memorial in theHoly Cross church at Warsaw bears thedate, March 2, 1809.
