Plasma spectrometry. Bottles containing samples of chemicals to be analysed using plasma desorption mass spectrometry (PDMS) at a petrochemical laboratory. PDMS is a technique for analysing non-volatile molecules, using heavy ions to penetrate the samples. This causes chemical reactions that produce other ions which are ejected from the surface. These ejected ions are then analysed in a mass spectrometer to determine the composition of the original sample.
