. Burpee's farm annual, 1892. Nursery stock Pennsylvania Philadelphia Catalogs; Flowers Catalogs; Vegetables Catalogs; Seeds Catalogs. W. ATLEE BURPEE & CO., PHILADELPHIA. The Der Wing Squash. Several years ago, in connection with a plants- man, vre sent an Agent (a native Chinaman) to trayel through the interior of China collecting seeds of Vegetables and Flowers which he might discover and which we could grow in America. The majority of these, on testing at Fordhook Farm, proved to be undesirable for American Gardens. One of the new Squashes, however, which we have named " Der Wing" in honor of the discoverer, proved to be very dis- tinct from any other we have ever seen. The Squash grows about 5 inches long by from 2^ to 3 inches thick at the stem end; running to a point at the blossom end. It has a rather hard and thick shell which is completely covered with warts; the color of the Hesh is a very light yellow. The flesh is moderately thick and very sweet when cooked. It is a queer-looking, warty, hard-shelled little Squash, with which you could almost knock down a bull. It is very productive and will doubtless prove a most excellent Winter keeper. There are so ruan j varieties of Squashes in cultivation that we naturally hesitated to introduce another unless it should prove of superlative merit. Therefore, although we had grown a good crop of the seed, we reserved our stock to distribute among our customers gratis for trial last year ; in this manner we sent out 25,000 packets, on each of which appeared the history and description reprinted verdatim above. The DER "WING- SQUASH has exceeded our most sanguine expectations, everywhere proving hardy and immensely productive^ and pronounced by our customers who have written us about it to be of surpassingly fine flavor. Per pkt. 10 cts.; 3 pkts. for 25 cts.; per oz. 35 They are Beauties,—of First-Class Quality. E. A. GORDOX, Eddington, Maine, Sept. 28th, 1891, writes:—I am very much plea
