Lettered A on key-plate (fig. 127). simple design, the aisle walls being pierced by three First Pointedlancet windows, with nook shafts and circular moulded caps, fromwhich deeply cut bead-and-hollow mouldings spring, ornamented oneach side with a dog-tooth enrichment. Part of the wall-headsupporting the aisle roof remains, consisting of a plain blocking-course and moulded cornice supported by carved corbels of FirstPointed form. At the exterior angles there are plain buttresseswith single intakes terminating at the under side of the cornice. Amoulded base-course has continued along the outer surface of the 136 historical monuments (scotland) commission. Parish of Mertoun. choir and north transept walls, the detail of the latter differingslightly from that of the former, probably indicating a repair of somelater time.
