Dorothy Wrinch (1894-1976), British mathematician and biochemical theorist, standing on a terrace. Wrinch is best known for her attempt to deduce protein structure using mathematical principles and is credited with playing a large part in the beginnings of modern research in molecular biology. In 1932 Wrinch was one of the founders of the Biotheoretical Gathering, an inter-disciplinary group that sought to explain life by discovering how proteins work. Photographed in 1940.
