Guido Reni. Saint Christopher. 1595–1642. Italy. Etching on paper Active in Rome and Bologna, Guido Reni was one of the most important printmakers of the 17th century. He was familiar with the dramatic works of Caravaggio, and he also maintained the Raphaelesque classicism espoused by the Carraccis in those two cities.
