The following list of the contents of a Pontifical hasbeen drawn up from the two Museum MSS., Lansd., 451,and Add., 6,157, and from the tables of the contents ofvarious Pontificals in Mr. Freres Pontifical Services, more especially from that of Bishop Clifford, which, inits agreement with the Lansdowne MS., forms the basisof the list now given. This list may be taken to repre-sent the contents of a very ample medieval Pontifical ;but the very remarkable fact is to be noted, that no re-maining Pontifical appears to contain the text for all theservices that a medieval Bishop would have required.
