Farmworkers Picket Publix Supermarket in Bid to Raise Pay for Picking Tomatoes
Columbus, Georgia - Members of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and their supporters picket a Publix supermarket, asking the chain to pay one cent more per pound for the tomatoes they buy, with the additional money helping to raise wages for the low-paid workers. CIW has won similar agreements at Taco Bell and other chains. The union's members are mostly Latin American immigrants who pick tomatoes in Florida. The sign reads: The people demand justice.
