All strainers should be wellwetted just before they are used, and those containing sizing shouldbe freed from the same by washing with hot water before they areput into use at all. For use at the dispensing counter in strainingsolutions, a pledget of absorbent cotton placed in the throat of afunnel will be found very convenient and serviceable; and, as nearlyevery solution prepared is likely to contain some specks and motes,this little operation should never be neglected. Some years ago a very serviceable oil filter was devised by WilliamR. Warner, which possesses the advantage of filtration under pres-sure, and is equally well adapted to syrups (see Fig. 115).
