Streptococcus agalactiae culture. Petri dish culture of the bacterium Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus), with a disk diffusion method being used to test the effectiveness of the antibiotic Erythromycin. Streptococcus agalactiae is a Gram-positive, facultative anaerobic coccus. It asymptomatically colonises the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract of humans. It can also be an opportunistic pathogen and can cause several invasive and neonatal infections. This culture was grown on MHS agar, which is Mueller Hinton agar supplemented with sheep's blood.
