MASSACHUSETTS June Starts Cold The first couple of days were cold, continued from the colder-than-nor- mal temperatures which had pre- vailed throughout May. But then the weather turned warmer, more ap- propriate to the season. The first 7 days brought a plus of 30 degrees. Turns Warmer The weather continued warm and mostly humid with a good deal of fog and cloud as there had been in May. Summer weather really hit the Massachusetts cranberry area on June 13. The official temperature at Boston reached 95 and unofficial thermometers recorded 100. Frost Warning June 15 First frost warning in June oc- cured on the night of the 15th with a warning sent out of possible light frost, 30 degrees. Remembering the "Killer" of May 30 many growers used water and flooded, other filled ditches. Others did not flow including the State Bog. The temperature did go down to 30 but no injury was reported. Month Slightly Warmer On the first day of summer, June 21 the temperatures had not been gaining quite so rapidly, but the plus degrees for the month were 50. On the following day there was a welcome rain, as bogs had been getting dry. The month ended with a 45 degree plus, or about a degree and a half more than normal, less than ap- peared would be the case the first of the month.
